Before going to introduce the Textile Institute Tangail let we have opportunity to say some words about Tangail District. Tangail is one of the Textrile back ground city in Bangladesh. She has importance in the economy or her glorious historical heritage in the production of handloom Textiles. From ancient period Tangail is famous for decorative sarees, which are specially designed and wover for the bangali ladies. Here, there are some important saree bazer (haat) in Tangail district. These haat’s are open before sunrise and closed within 9 a.m. . During this period the whole sale and the retail sari seller sale their decorative saree to the whole sale purchaser and retail purchaser. Thousands of temporary saree shops of found in that morning saree bazer.

The Tangail Textile Institute has a vital rule for situating in Tangail and has the closed link and great contribution with the local traditional weaving development by creating artisans and skill Technologist.
Background: Tangail has a historical educational background. It was established during the British colonial rule in the year 1917. At that time 6(six) textile institutes were established in between 1910 to 1930 in different part of the then East Bengal as ‘weaving school’ offering artisan course. After partion in 1947 to these school were upgraded to district weaving school and offering 1 year certificate course. After liberation, in 1980 these schools named as District Textile Institute (DTI) were offering 2 years certificate course. In 1994 a 3 years diploma in textile technology course was affiliated under Bangladesh Technical Education Board(BTEB). In 2002 this diploma course has upgraded and equivalent with the polytechnic diploma engineering course by the BTEB, and the course was extended from 3 years to 4 years course and institute named as Tangail Textile Institute, Tangail. The semester course was established on 2002 (8 semester).
Location: The Textile institute Tangail situated by the river of Lauhajang,Tangail,about 100km north-west from Dhaka. The institute is located only 1km South to the Tangail old bus terminal towards Bajidpur road. The institute consists of 5 acres of land. It has big pond, dormitory for teachers, girls hostel, a mosque ,beautifull Shaid Minar and various kinds of trees, which attract any one for its very charming and eye catching natural views.
Faculty Members: A group of well learned trained and experienced faculties teach the students. Principal is the key-person of the institute, three chief instructors hold the charge of four departments and under them there are several instructors, junior instructors and assistant instructors. For related subjects one chief instructor, three instructors and four junior instructors are also employed.

This department have cotton spinning shed and jute spinning shed. The cotton spinning shed and jute spinning shed provides preparing technology. Both conventional and modern machinery kept the shed for demonstration.

Computer Laboratory:
This institute has a well-furnished beautiful arranged fully air conditioned computer laboratory. Teaching is done one student one PC basis through multimedia projector. There are 28 computers now in computer laboratory.

Industrial linkage: The institute has very close link with different textile industries, textile professional & related associations. Now and than students are taken to different textile industry to make them acquainted with the mill environment. Beside it students have to perform a compulsory industrial attachment program for 16 week at the period of 8 semester at the end of the course. Affiliation: The diploma in Textile Engineering program controlled by Bangladesh Technical Education Board. Course structure: The institute is controlled by Department of Textiles under the ministry of Textiles & Jute. Now offering mainly three courses, namely- a. Diploma in Textile Engineering b. Diploma in Jute Technology. Eligibility to be a candidate: a. Diploma in Textile Engineering & b. Diploma in Jute Technology. 1. Must be a Bangladeshi citizen 2. Should pass S.SC & Equivalent. 3. Minimum GPA 3.00 Required. 4. 30% seat reserved for SSC textile vocational students, 10% seat reserved for ladies, 02(two) seat reserved for tribal people and 03(three) seat reserved for the spouse of freedom fighters. Course duration & credit hour: a. Diploma in Textile Engineering: 175 credits Duration: 3 years 6 months, academic session started Every year at the month of July. Industry attachment: Last 6 (six) months b. Diploma in Jute Technology Duration: 4 years. Academic session started: In September/October every years. Industrial attachment: Last semester 16 weeks Career prospects: The technological knowledge and skills of our Textile Engineers are highly valued by textile manufacturing companies. In the quota free world, trading situation demands quality products and timely movement of goods at reasonable price. During manufacturing the factories need qualified technologist in order to maintain quality. The industry realizes that its future depends upon the quality of its technology and technologists as the product quality and productivity play the vital role in export market. The Textile Engineers are the key person in ensuring quality production and management. The majority of our Textile Engineers are absorbed in textile industries. The Engineers also getting their jobs in buying house, new product development, textile testing and quality assurance department, indenting house and so on. The most remarkable place of tangail: . Academic Activities: Four departments are now running they are: • Yarn Manufacturing Department • Fabric Manufacturing Department • Clothing Manufacturing Department • Wet Processing Department • Each technical department is headed by a Textile Engineer. They are working as Chief Instructor. Admission Procedure: Qualification for Admission: • Should pass the Secondary School Certificate or equivalent examination. • Must have a GPA of 3.00 with a minimum GP 2.00 in Mathematics or higher mathematics. Time of Admission: Just after the Publication of the result of SSC or equivalent examination. That is every year in July –August with writing test of 100 marks from the syllabus of S.S.C. Admission is done only in the 1st semester and the total no. of 80+20% students get chance for admission in Each course of diploma in textile engineering and diploma in jute technology.
